Naturopathy support for neurodivergent kids and adults

Are you seeking supportive care for yourself or a loved one who is neurodivergent- autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, has dyscalculia, tic disorder, or just wired a little differently with anything else that fits under the neurodiversity umbrella? You’re not alone. I’m often tagged in social media conversations for families looking for naturopathic support, so I wanted to share a bit about how I work.

As an autistic naturopath (see my blog about this) in a neurodivergent household, my approach is both clinically informed and deeply personal. I don’t “treat” or “cure” neurodiversity- because it’s not something that needs fixing.

My care is grounded in celebrating unique strengths and supporting the struggles that may arise.

What might support look like?

Support can be as simple as a plan to help with chronic dehydration (sometimes, remembering to drink is harder than you’d think), finding ways to navigate food preferences and appetite changes- maybe those related to medication, or sensory factors around taste and texture. Digestive symptoms are really common: IBS, constipation, loose stools, bloating or reflux often crop up. Other areas might include focus, stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep issues, or anything else that makes life trickier.

What does a consultation look like?

We can meet either in my clinic in Belgrave Heights or online, whichever suits you best. Initial consultations run for up to 60 minutes, giving plenty of time to discuss health history, review pathology, and most importantly- talk through your goals or what you’d like support with.

If you’re here on behalf of a child or someone you care for, feel free to share anything in advance (by email or intake form) that might be sensitive, whether it’s challenging behaviour or health details. My goal is always to keep the conversation positive and focus on building rapport. There’s no shame, no judgement- just a space where everyone can be heard.

Realistic, individualised plans

Most people already know what they want to be doing better at- for example, eating more fruit and veg, going to bed earlier, or moving their bodies more. What matters is understanding why those goals aren’t easy right now, and breaking solutions down into steps that feel doable. If supplements are indicated, I have samples in the clinic so they can be taste tested- I am happy to offer to mail or send you home with a few doses to try so you don’t have to commit to a full-sized tub of something that might not be tolerable.

Testing options

Sometimes, additional pathology testing is helpful- though not required for most folks. We’ll discuss whether this is relevant for your situation. Most of the time, blood tests you’ve already had tell us plenty and keep things simple and cost-conscious.
